This is a post with a collection of links documenting the US v Huawei battle that is going on.
Is this battle …
- a battle over control of 5G networks
- “If you cant beat them ban them” move by the US?
- about security concerns?
I have great respect for Apple innovation (up to the iPhone X) but Huawei have been doing a great job of late with it’s 6 month product release cycles.
I owned a Huawei Mate 9 (as a Android Development Device) alongside an iPhone and I currently own a Huawei Mate 20 Pro as a daily driver after I dropped my iPhone 6 Plus (and could not repair it).
But now my Huawei Mate 20 Pro may be kicked to the kerb by the Tariff wars (even though I live in Australia). This one hurts me a lot as I bought the phone with the promise of 2 years of major OS upgrades like the Huawei Mate 9.

OptusChat – Garin
and
You can trade up the handset on 26th Oct 2019, otherwise, we are following up with huawei and they will get back to us before August 2019 with a better resolution.
OptusChat – Richard
I am still waiting for a response from the Optus Customer Resolve group.
Optus has not contacted me in the 2 days the said and instead texted me and said they will get back to me in 10 days?
Optus replied and said “Hi Simon – We are working closely with Huawei to provide the best outcome for Optus customers. We will provide updates if the situation changes. As of now we’ll have to wait till 18 August “
Wow, I guess I will know 2 weeks before my phone software is due to expire?
